‘n Huldeblyk….

Posted on

ODE TO MY MOTHER

When you were alive, my mother
we joked about your talking, teaching and cleaning
We complained that we could not get a word in edgeways
and each conversation you turned into a lesson.

You were not easy on forgiving
You were hard on the living (and the dead)
You were selfless with your giving
and jealous if you felt your place was threatened

You lived solely in black and white
There were no grey areas with you
You did not suffer fools gladly
You hated passionately
but I know you also loved madly

Sometimes we were too many children for your kraal
But I was near to you,  so I heard you call for them
I will never forget your voice in my head
When you said “I am so ready to go.”

You made an impact that no other could ever equal
We did not always agree with your methods
And you kept us on our toes
and this one thing we now all know for sure is
YOU WERE ONE OF A KIND !
